fREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- Where do you buy your materials?
- Foam and lining fabric: Joann fabrics
- Fur: HowlFabric, fursuitsupplies
- Minky, fleece, and vinyl fabrics: BigZFabrics and various Etsy sellers
- Magnets, hot glue, eva foam, clippers, and almost everything else can be found on Amazon!
- How are handpaws and armsleeves made? I'm currently using a paw pattern by Kloofsuits! They will fit any size hand, but if you have unusually small or large hands, let me know so I can adjust it for you! Claws and pads are usually made with minky fabric, but I can work with resin claws made by other makers too. Paws are lined with lightweight cotton fabric. These are puffy 4 fingered symmetrical hand paws, but I'm willing to try 5 fingered ones or non-stuffed ones! Paws will always have fleece or minky cuffs, but armsleeves won't (faux fur doesn't tend to stretch or fray, and finished edges are only cosmetic)!
- How are feetpaws made? These are built over slippers/shoes, glued onto EVA foam. It's ideal if you can send me a pair of shoes to work with so we know for sure they fit (slightly bigger may be ideal, since the lining will go inside the shoe). They are lined with quilted broadcloth like the head, and I'm working on finding more durable rubber for the soles! The fur on the bottoms of outdoor feet will have raw edges, but the top is cuffed with minky or fleece. I've never experimented with other feet types, but if interested we can discuss sockpaws, indoor feet, digitigrade feet, etc.
- How are heads made? I custom build every base using upholstery foam and line them with breathable quilted broadcloth fabric. Jaws are only static at this time. Eyes are 2D with hand painted vinyl aida, while noses and tongues are usually made out of minky! I'm experimenting with teeth material, but usually go with fleece or microsuede. Eyelids are magnetic but tongues are velcro.
- How do I get a quote? I'll be announcing on Twitter when quotes are being accepted! This will happen around 1-2 months before I accept new commissions. Quote form // Commission form (< they'll be linked here once they're created)
- Can I provide you with a head base that I made or bought? Similarly: Will you refurbish heads made by others? Since I'm trying hard to develop my style for heads right now, this would defeat that purpose. I'll happily do it for friends or special occasions, but don't want it to be a regular thing!
- Will you make repairs? See my Terms for repairs on commissions! If you want me to repair a suit made by someone else, there will be a fee and make sure you get your maker's permission first.
- Will you make full suits? Not at this time, but hopefully in the future!
- For how long have you been making fursuits? I made my first head in late 2015 and I took my first commission early in 2019!
- How long will it take you to complete my suit? Estimates are never guaranteed, but they will never exceed 6 months (Paypal buyer protection claim deadline), for peace of mind! A better answer will be written here once I have more experience.
- What kinds of characters do you prefer to work on? Canines, felines, mustelids, and rodents are my current comfort zone! I probably won't accept commission requests for scalies or birds. I don't prefer characters with very small, complex markings or clashing colors.
- Why didn't you reply to my message? I have social anxiety and it's often difficult to respond to everyone across all social media. Please forgive me if I'm slow to reply at times! I love sending frequent updates/WIPs to commissioners, so it shouldn't be a big issue in this process.
- What's the inspiration behind the name "Alpha Lyncis"? It's the name of the brightest star in the constellation "Lynx"!
